Terms of Use
Last updated: 26 August 2026 · Applies to the MedUp mobile app and medup.com.ng
Read this first. MedUp is a study and self-assessment tool for students. Everything in it is educational content — it is not medical advice and must never be relied on to diagnose, treat or manage a real patient. Always defer to your curriculum, your textbooks, your lecturers and your clinical supervisors.
1. Agreement to these terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and MedUp ("MedUp", "we", "us", "our") governing your use of the MedUp mobile application, the website at medup.com.ng, and any related services (together, the "Service").
By creating an account, downloading the app, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Who may use MedUp
You may use the Service if:
- You are at least 16 years old, or the age of digital consent where you live, whichever is higher; and
- You have the legal capacity to enter into a binding contract; and
- You are not barred from using the Service under any applicable law.
MedUp is designed for students in tertiary medical and allied health education. If you are under 18, you should have a parent or guardian review these Terms with you.
3. Your account
You need an account to use most of the Service. You agree to:
- Give accurate information when you register, including your university, programme and level, and keep it up to date;
- Keep your login credentials confidential and not share your account with anyone;
- Be responsible for everything that happens under your account; and
- Tell us promptly at support@medup.com.ng if you suspect unauthorised access.
One account is for one person. Accounts may not be sold, shared, rented or transferred. Sharing an account is grounds for suspension.
4. Your licence to use MedUp
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, and to access the content in it, for your own study only.
This licence does not permit you to:
- Copy, screenshot in bulk, scrape, export, republish, distribute or sell any of our questions, explanations, flashcards or images;
- Use the Service or its content to build, train or improve any competing product, dataset or machine-learning model;
- Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except to the extent that this restriction is prohibited by law;
- Remove or obscure any copyright, trademark or other proprietary notice; or
- Use automated means — bots, scripts, scrapers — to access the Service.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in breach of your institution's examination or academic-integrity rules;
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Service, another user's account, or our systems;
- Interfere with, disrupt or place unreasonable load on the Service or its infrastructure;
- Manipulate leaderboards, streaks, points, badges or mastery scores by any means other than genuinely practising — including automation, multiple accounts, or tampering with the app or your device clock;
- Circumvent, disable or attempt to defeat any usage limit, subscription check or other technical protection;
- Upload or transmit malicious code, or anything unlawful, defamatory, harassing or obscene; or
- Impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with an institution.
Any display name you choose is visible to other students on leaderboards. Choose one that is not offensive, misleading, or another person's name. We may change or remove a display name that breaches this.
6. Subscriptions and payment
6.1 How purchases are made
Paid access to MedUp is sold as an auto-renewing subscription and is processed through the app store you installed from — currently Google Play. Payment is taken by Google, not by us, under your Google Play payment method and Google's terms. We never receive or store your card or bank details.
6.2 Renewal
A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel it at least 24 hours before the period ends. The price and billing period in force are those shown to you in the app at the time of purchase.
6.3 Cancelling
You can cancel at any time in your Google Play account settings — Subscriptions → MedUp → Cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for, and you keep paid access until that period ends. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription, and neither does deleting your MedUp account.
6.4 Refunds
Refunds for purchases made through Google Play are handled by Google under its refund policy, and we do not control them. If something has gone wrong with your access, contact support@medup.com.ng first — we will usually be able to fix it directly. Except where a refund is required by law, subscription fees are otherwise non-refundable.
6.5 Price changes
We may change subscription pricing. Any change applies from your next billing period and we will give you notice through the app store and the app before it takes effect, so that you can cancel if you do not wish to continue.
7. Free access and usage limits
MedUp offers free access with limits on how much you can practise in a day. Those limits, and what a subscription unlocks, are described in the app and may change as the Service develops. Free access is provided as-is and we may modify or withdraw it at any time.
Daily limits are counted on your device against your device's own clock. Attempting to defeat them — by changing the date, clearing app data, or otherwise — is a breach of Section 5.
8. Our content and intellectual property
All questions, answer options, explanations, flashcards, illustrations, the MedUp name and logo, the app's design and its underlying software are owned by MedUp or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership to you.
Our questions and flashcards are written by our team with reference to standard medical textbooks for concepts only. They are original works and are not copied or closely paraphrased from any source text. Where third-party material is used under licence, it is credited in the app.
If you believe content in MedUp infringes your intellectual property, email support@medup.com.ng with enough detail to identify the work and the material complained of, and we will investigate promptly.
9. Educational use only — important disclaimer
MedUp does not provide medical advice. The content in the Service is prepared for the purpose of examination revision and self-assessment by students. It is general educational information and nothing more.
You must not rely on MedUp to diagnose, treat, prescribe for, or otherwise manage any real patient, and you must not rely on it in place of your curriculum, your prescribed textbooks, your lecturers, or your clinical supervisors. If you have a health concern of your own, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
Medical knowledge and guidelines change. While our content is reviewed by MBBS-qualified reviewers before publication and we work hard to keep it accurate and current, we do not warrant that every item is free from error, complete, or aligned with the specific expectations of your examiners.
MedUp does not guarantee any examination result. Your performance depends on your own study, and using MedUp is not a substitute for attending your course.
If you spot something you believe is wrong, please report it in the app or email support@medup.com.ng. Corrections from students are genuinely welcome and are how the question bank improves.
10. Availability and changes to the service
We aim to keep MedUp available and working, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. Access may be suspended for maintenance, upgrades, or reasons outside our control including network, device or third-party provider failures.
We may add, change, suspend or remove features, subjects or content at any time. If we discontinue a paid feature you are actively paying for, we will give reasonable notice and, where appropriate, a pro-rata refund of the affected period.
The app stores content on your device for offline use. You are responsible for the device, its storage, and any mobile data charges from your network operator.
11. Your data and progress
How we handle your personal data is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
We take reasonable measures to preserve your progress and to sync it between your devices, but we do not warrant that data will never be lost. You should not treat MedUp as the only record of your study.
12. Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties including Google (sign-in and billing), our hosting provider, and our notifications provider. Your use of those services is also governed by their own terms. We are not responsible for third-party services, and links from the Service to external sites are provided for convenience only and are not an endorsement.
13. Suspension and termination
By you. You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account in the app under Settings → Account, or by emailing us. Remember to cancel any subscription separately in Google Play.
By us. We may suspend or terminate your access, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms — in particular Section 5 — if we are required to by law, or if we reasonably believe your use puts the Service or other users at risk. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put things right.
On termination your licence ends immediately and you must stop using the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive — including 8, 9, 14, 15, 16 and 17 — continue to apply.
14. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service and all content in it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will meet your requirements, that it will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, or that any defect will be corrected.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
15. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MedUp, its directors, employees and contractors will not be liable for:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss;
- Loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, data, or anticipated savings;
- Examination results, academic outcomes, or any decision you take on the basis of content in the Service; or
- Any clinical decision or patient outcome arising from reliance on the Service, which is expressly outside its purpose.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you paid us for the Service in that period, and (b) ₦10,000.
16. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold MedUp harmless from any claim, loss, liability, cost or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your infringement of any third party's rights.
17. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The courts of Nigeria have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with them.
Before starting formal proceedings, please contact us at support@medup.com.ng. Most problems are resolved quickly and informally, and we would always rather fix something than argue about it.
18. General
- Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms as the Service develops or the law changes. The "Last updated" date at the top shows the current version, and we will give notice in the app of any material change before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service afterwards means you accept the updated Terms.
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service, and replace any earlier understanding.
- Severability. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in full force.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a right, that is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign them to an affiliate or in connection with a merger or sale of assets.
- Force majeure. We are not liable for failure to perform caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
